My Number

What is My Number (Individual Number)

My number is a number given to everyone who has a resident record in Japan.

“Notice of My Number” will be sent by mail to foreigners also after completing resident registration.

You will find your My Number on the notice.

 

My Number is used in the following situations:

  • When submitting social insurance or tax documents at a municipal office
  • When you start working for a company
  • When opening a bank account or sending money abroad

 

 

My Number Card (Individual Number Card)

My Number Card is an IC (integrated circuit) card which your My Number is written on.

It can be used as an identification card (ID) because it has your photo.

You will receive your My Number Card If you apply using the "Application for Issuance of an Individual Number Card" included in the "Notice of My Number".

You can also apply using a computer or smartphone.

You need to renew your My Number Card on your 10th birthday following card issuance (5th birthday for those under 18 years old).

The electronic certificate card (used for e-Tax, online banking, Myna Portal, etc.) must be renewed by your 5th birthday following card issuance. Renewal is free, and you will receive an electronic expiration notice approximately 2-3 months before the expiration date.
