You need to open accounts for you to start using electricity, gas, or water after moving, etc.

Sing up for the gas company by phone or online and schedule the date and time for the gas tap to be opened.
You or someone else must be present when the serviceman of gas company comes to open the gas tap.

Termination of utility services
Notifications are also required when turning off utility services due to moving, etc.
Notify the electric power company, gas company, and water bureau that you want to terminate services.
How to pay utility bills
You pay electricity and gas bills monthly, and water bills every two months.
You can make payments by transferring from banks, post offices, convenience stores, etc., as well as auto debit or credit card.
Caution for using electricity, gas, and water

- In Tokyo, electricity of 100V/50Hz is used.
If you use home appliances other than those labeled "100V/50Hz", they may not work or break. - Your circuit breaker may shut down and the electricity will be automatically turned off when you use too many appliances at the same time.
If it happens, unplug the appliances you were using from the outlet then switch on the circuit breaker back to on.

As soon as you notice the smell of gas, do the following:
- Open windows and doors widely.
- Close the gas tap.
- Call the gas company.
Never use fire to prevent explosion.
Do not turn on lights, ventilation fans, etc. as they spark and can lead a fire.

Always pay attention to the following to prevent clogging of drainage pipes (pipes for draining water).
- Do not flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilet.
- Do not pour oil down the kitchen drain. Wipe off oil from dishes and pots
before washing. - Do not wash your hair down the drain of the bathroom or washroom.
If the water stops flowing or leaks, contact the landlord (ohya) or the management company.
