Fussa-Hamura Multicultural Coexistence Project Council Produced videos about multicultural coexistence.
Fussa City and Hamura City established the "Fussa-Hamura Multicultural Coexistence Project Council" in FY2020, and are working on multicultural coexistence projects. The two cities border each other, so there is a lot of coming and going of citizens. In addition, Fussa City ranks first among Tokyo's 26 cities in the ratio of foreign residents (approx. 6.35%), and Hamura City ranks fourth (approx. 2.56%), with more foreign residents than any other city in Tokyo (as of April 2020).
The results of the "Fussa City and Hamura City Multicultural Coexistence General Survey" conducted by the Project Council in 2020, were the following;
- In a question to the Japanese residents, 43.1% of respondents were "completely unaware" of the term "multicultural coexistence."
- When questioned about the "difficulties and worries" of foreign residents, the most common answer was "language" at 32.2%.
Due to these results, the Project Council produced awareness-raising videos to increase the spirit of multicultural coexistence, in 2021. They made videos "for Japanese" and "for foreigners," respectively, with Fussa City and Hamura City versions.
■Videos for Japanese
Three groups of foreigners living in Fussa City and Hamura City, respectively, were interviewed about their lives, work, and Japanese language study. The videos also introduce how to communicate in plain Japanese.
