"Safety tips / Safety Information Card," Tool for obtaining information during disasters
*This article originally appeared on a website operated by Tokyo International Communication.
"Safety tips" is a free app launched by the Japan Tourism Agency. The app provides easy-to-understand disaster information to international visitors.
The app features push notifications for Earthquake Early Warnings, Tsunami Warnings, Eruption Notices, Weather Warnings, and other disaster warnings. It also has various useful functions if a disaster actually occurs. In addition to providing information on medical institutions which can accept foreign patients, the app features a flowchart showing appropriate behavior during a disaster, a communication card for obtaining information from nearby Japanese people, and useful links that provide information in times of disaster.
The app is available in 14 languages: English, Chinese (simplified/traditional), Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Tagalog, Nepalese, Khmer, Myanmar(Burmese), Mongolian. We also highly recommend that foreign residents living in Japan download the app.

The Japan Tourism Agency also provides a Safety Information Card which lists apps (including the "Safety tips" app) and websites which will help international visitors spend safe time in Japan. The Safety Information Card can be folded into the size of a business card so that you can put it in your wallet or ticket case and carry it at all times. We highly recommend obtaining a Safety Information Card. The cards are available at facilities such as immigration and tourist information centers, and can also be downloaded.
