Energy Conservation and Power Saving

Energy Conservation[省エネsho-ene]and Power Saving[節電setsuden

Summer and winter are the times of the year when we use electricity the most in Japan. So, even if power plants produce a lot of electricity, there would soon not be enough to go around. When we have to use electricity carefully, we often use words like sho-ene and setsuden.

Energy Conservation[省エネsho-ene

Sho-ene is a shortened form of "Sho-energy (energy conservation)". It means using less electricity, gas, and other forms of energy. Sho-ene is important to ensure that energy is always available and to protect the earth from global warming. Let's all keep sho-ene in mind.

Power Saving[節電setsuden

Saving electricity at times when power is in short supply is called "setsuden". Electricity is especially in short supply from evening to night. The reason is that we use a lot of electricity when we come home, turn on the lights and air conditioner, and prepare meals for the evening. If there is not enough electricity, the power will go out. So, please be aware of setsuden.
