Higashimurayama City International Friendship Association
About the International Association
Higashimurayama City and Independence, Missouri (USA) signed a sister-city treaty on January 26, 1978 to deepen friendship and mutual understanding between their citizens through wide-ranging exchanges in various fields, thereby contributing also to world peace and prosperity. Since its foundation as an organization to promote this treaty led by citizens, this Association engages in mutual citizen exchange. The activities of the Association includes student exchanges (sending and welcoming students since 1979) with Independence, quinquennial anniversary events (making and receiving official friendly visits to USA and to Japan), English conversation classes and various events for exchanges among members, such as an Industry Festival for Citizens, etc., publication of the newsletter, "Hito-to-Hito (People-to-People Links)" and construction of Japanese landscape gardens within Independence.

Access |
The Association is about a seven-minute walk from the North exit of "Kumegawa Station." To get to this station, change trains at JR Yamanote Line "Takadanobaba Station" to the Seibu-Shinjuku Line. It takes about half an hour by semi express or express train. It also can be reached by about a twelve-minute walk from the East exit of "Higashi-Murayama Station" on the JR Chuo Line and the Seibu Kokubunji Line. The Association is located within walking distance from "Kumegawa Station" as well as "Higashimurayama Station." |
