For Foreign Residents [Please respond to the census!]

The Government of Japan will conduct a census as of October 1, 2025. The census is a statistical survey conducted in accordance with the law. All people residing in Japan, regardless of nationality, are required by law to respond to the census.

 

 

Census process

*Please answer by October 8, 2025.

From late September 2025, census takers will visit each household and distribute census documents. You can respond either online or by completing the printed census questionnaire and mailing it or handing it to the census taker. (The census will be conducted according to the process in the diagram below.)

*Responses can be submitted online in English, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish and Portuguese. Responses can be submitted 24 hours a day from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

 

 

About personal information you provided

Responses are used for statistical purposes only and are not used for any other purpose, such as for immigration or police investigations. The results of the census are used as basic data for policies and measures, such as the development of more livable communities for foreign nationals.
