【Disaster Prevention Topics⑬】~Be Careful of Accidents at Rivers and the Sea~
The Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation “TSUNAGARI” is introducing tools that are useful for disaster prevention, as part of our “Disaster Prevention Topics.”
Many accidents can occur at rivers and the sea in summer.
Be careful of the following seven points when going to rivers and the sea.
① Stay away from “Keep Out” signs
→There are dangers in rivers and the sea that cannot be seen (suddenly becoming deep, strong currents, slipperiness).
② Do not go in the water if you feel unwell.
→Do not go in the water when you are tired or sleepy.
③ Always have someone with you. Do not go alone.
→If you are alone, there will be no one you can call to for help when an accident occurs.
④ Do not go in rivers or the sea if you have been drinking.
→It is easy to have an accident when you are drunk.
⑤ Do not take your eyes off your child(ren).
→It is easy for children to drown or get swept away by the current.
⑥ Wear a life jacket
→You can protect yourself by wearing a life jacket.
⑦ Call for help when you see someone drowning or in need of help.
→It is dangerous to try to rescue someone who is drowning.
Call 119 (118 if someone is drowning in the sea).
*118: Japan Coast Guard Emergency Hotline.
