Minato International Association (MIA) holds a bi-monthly film screening and group discussion event called "Minato TABUNKA Cine-Talk." Under the concept of "Nurturing an Intercultural Community Through Film," we screen works that offer diverse global perspectives.
This screening features the documentary film Mottainai Kitchen, which explores the themes of food and the environment, encouraging us to reconsider the way we live.
One-third of all food produced in the world is wasted — a shocking reality that inspired Austrian filmmaker and food rescuer David to travel across Japan. His mission is to rediscover the spirit of mottainai and breathe new life into food that would otherwise be thrown away. From Fukushima to Kagoshima, he journeys across the country, uncovering creative ways to prevent food loss and highlighting the warm connections between people.
The film reminds us of the importance of treating food not just as a "thing," but as life itself. It invites us to reflect on what true abundance really means — something that’s often lost in the pursuit of convenience and efficiency.
After the screening, there will be a space for open conversation among participants — a chance to share your impressions of the film and discuss what we can each do in our daily lives. We warmly invite you to join us!
Note: The film includes audio in Japanese, English, and other languages, with Japanese subtitles.
