We are launching "Hanamaru Class"! This is a study support class including Japanese language and targeting children with international heritage.

At "Hanamaru Class", together with Japanese volunteers a child can…
✔ Study hiragana, katakana, and kanji basics
✔ Do homework
✔ Work through confusing school assignments or studies
✔ Study "easily and thoroughly"

The aims of the class are :
・to support children with international heritage so that they can acquire the necessary studying skills before they enter Japanese elementary school.
・to strengthen the children's basic study skills from the lower elementary school grade levels.

We are also planning to have an original crafts workshop once a month!
Snacks and toys will be provided during the class!
Come join us and let’s enjoy studying on Saturdays with the Japanese volunteers!

Overview of the Class

  • Target Participants:
Children with International Heritage (5-years-old to those who are in grade 4 of elementary school)
    * For registration purposes, the first time the child attends, the parent(s) will need to join the class along with their child.
    * Those who attend international schools are also welcome to join the class.

  • Items to Bring:
writing utensils/erasers etc., the child's study materials, homework, workbooks, etc.

  • Maximum Participants:
8 people per session (early applications take priority and application in advance is required)

<General Program>

We will support each participant at a level appropriate to his/her age and level of study, one-on-one, with a small group of Japanese volunteers.
・Preschool children: practice writing hiragana and katakana, play games of Karuta, and sing along with educational Japanese songs used to expose and acclimate children to the Japanese language
・ Those attending elementary school: please bring materials that your child wishes to study, such as homework assignments from their school
Taking into account children's short attention spans, the length of the study session will be set for around 40 minutes per child. Please come to the class during the hours that we're available.
